Assam minister of state for health Pijush Hazarika on Sunday gave a 10-day deadline to the Dhubri Civil Hospital authority to make the hospital premises neat and clean.

Minister Hazarika expressed serious concern over the dirty look of the hospital during his visit to the hospital on Sunday.

He asked the hospital authority and the Dhubri district administration to maintain a totally clean environment in and around the hospital premises at any cost.

“The government is continuously paying a big amount of Rs 1 lakh on a monthly basis to the authorities concerned only to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. But despite it, the hospital authority has totally failed to keep a clean environment in the hospital which will be never tolerated,” Hazarika said.

During his visit to the Dhubri Civil Hospital, the junior health minister of the state opened an Apollo Dialysis Clinic in the hospital.

This is the 16th free dialysis unit opened by the Apollo Dialysis Clinic in the state.

The facility has five beds.

Minister Hazarika said the Assam government and the Chennai-based Apollo Dialysis Centre signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to set up dialysis centres in different health centres across Assam.

As per the agreement, the Assam government will pay a sum of Rs 1,296 per patient to the Apollo Dialysis Centre.

The patients will not have to pay a single penny to any authority as the facility is totally free of cost.

Earlier, Assam governor Jagadish Mukhi during his Dhubri visit in September 2019 also lambasted the district administration and the civil hospital authority for the unhygienic condition of the hospital.

Governor Mukhi had termed Dhubri Civil Hospital as the “most dirty hospital of Assam” and directed the authorities concerned to improve the basic amenities and available facilities at the hospital at the earliest.
