Meghalaya government has identified and declared 12 areas as ‘vending zone’ in state capital Shillong.
This was announced by the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) and chairperson of Town Vending Committee (Municipal) in a notice issued on Wednesday.
The notice stated the decision was taken as per the provisions of the Meghalaya Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014.
The earmarked portion of the areas identified and declared as vending zone are for the registered vendors within the municipal jurisdiction, it stated.

The areas include parking lot opposite SBI main branch, Mawlong Hat parking lot, parking lot opposite Anjalee, triangular plot opposite SBI Kench’s Trace, Polo near Mantri Mandir, Space near CRPF Camp Polo, Lady Hydari Park (from Assam PWD guest House to entrance gate of the park), Ward’s Lake (opposite ticket counter), Student fields (opposite Dinam Hall), Qualapatty Road (opposite Pahsyntiew Parking lot), Keating Road, and Quinton Road (from entrance of Marba Hub to the entrance of MUDA parking lot).
The notice also said no vending will be allowed beyond the said areas.
