The Kamrup (Metro) district administration is planning to reduce the distance between two bus stops to 750 metre in Guwahati.

During a meeting of the Regional Transport Authority of Kamrup (Metro) district on Monday, deputy commissioner Biswajit Pegu said that the decision has been taken to stop the unauthorized halting of city buses in Guwahati.

He also said that the decision had been taken according to an order of the Gauhati High Court.

Pegu said that the move has been taken for the efficient functioning of the public transport system in Guwahati.

He also urged all RTA officials and representatives of transport associations to ensure implementation of recently formulated time card system in every city bus plying in and around the city.

The DC also said that each city bus will have to strictly follow the routes that had been formulated by the RTA along with the police administration and other departments.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Ranjan Bhuyan said that the traffic congestion problem in the city would decrease a lot if every city bus abides by all the rules and regulations formulated by the administration.
