Nagaland chief secretary, Temjen Toy has directed all the stakeholders involved in the construction of the four-lane road from Patkai to Purana Bazaar to submit the latest status report of their activities latest by the first week of January next year.

Addressing a meeting in his residence at Padam Phukuri on Monday, the chief secretary expressed regret stating that the four laning road from Purana Bazaar to Chümoukedima seems to be an ‘undisciplined project’ and advised all the stakeholders to start work from now in order to see visible improvement especially with regard to flow of traffic and other areas.

He advised traffic personnel to start disciplining traffic flow from now and directed them to have a sitting with the contractors to work out designated crossings and make it operational immediately.

He further stated that filling of gaps at the under-construction highway by the public should not be allowed.

“We cannot have crossings as per the demand of the people, only designated crossings should be used so that people get used to a certain system,” he maintained.

At the meeting, the stakeholders expressed concern at the daily bazaars on the highway stretch which adds to the traffic problem.

Regarding this, the chief secretary insisted that markets should not spill over in the main road.

“Start enforcing the law and the people have to start respecting the law,” he stated.

Toy asked the district administration to convene a meeting every fortnight with the stakeholders and contractors and to work out a solution with regard to land issues hampering laying of pipe lines in certain areas, markets affecting flow of traffic, parking issues, autorickshaw licensing and other areas of concern.

The meeting also discussed the issue of plantation in the Dimapur city highway stretch.

He asked the power department to take a decision on power energy charges of street lights which is to be placed between the road dividers.

The meeting was attended by the DGP Nagaland, Commissioner of Police Dimapur, ADC Dimapur, administraive officers, officers from all line departments and contractors engaged in the project.
