The ‘no-confidence motion’ brought by the Opposition Congress was rejected by the Meghalaya Assembly speaker on Thursday.
The ‘no-confidence motion’ was brought during the special session of the State Assembly for the passage of the resolution to urge the central government to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.
Assembly speaker Metbah Lyngdoh gave his ruling that the ‘no-confidence motion’ would not be admitted as the sitting of the House was called for a day-long special session.
Quoting the rules while rejecting the motion, speaker Metbah Lyngdoh said, “The motion will be taken up in such day not being more than 10 days and not less than 24 hours from the time at which leave is asked.”

“Therefore, taking the rules into consideration, I will not admit this ‘no-confidence motion’,” said Lyngdoh.
Congress while tabling the ‘no-confidence motion’ alleged that the present MDA government failed on all fronts.
The Congress mentioned that the government has failed to protect the interests of the people of the state. The opposition party also alleged financial mismanagement, stalling of developmental programmes and rampant corruption at all levels.
The Meghalaya Cabinet on Tuesday approved a resolution to be tabled and passed in the State Assembly on the need to implement the ILP in the state.
The Meghalaya government will urge the Centre to implement the ILP system under the Eastern Bengal Frontier Regulation, 1873 in the state.
After the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, chief minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters that the Cabinet unanimously approved the government resolution on the ILP and the same would be passed during a one-day special session by the state Assembly on Thursday.
