The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will probe the death of a Class VII student of Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai in Manipur.

The central investigating agency reportedly took charge of the case on Saturday.

The 13-year-old student was found hanging inside her school boarding room at Canchipur in Imphal West, with her feet touching the floor, TOI reported.

The family members of the child and a local group suspect foul play in the death.

Manipur police constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the incident.

The SIT had arrested the principal of school, her son, daughter and two wardens.

Four of them, except one of the wardens, have been released on bail.

The Manipur high court had recently asked the CBI to probe into the case.

Acting on high court order, a three-member team, including officers from the investigating agency and special crime branch, Kolkata, has been constituted under deputy SP CR Das, sources said.
