Total 170 runners from different walks of life came forward for a noble initiative and took part in the charity run- Run for Reeya- held in Gangtok on Saturday morning.

This charity run was initiated by a Gangtok-based journalist Dichen Ongmu to raise fund for ailing national footballer of Sikkim Reeya Lepcha, who has been suffering from brain tumour.

She hails from West Sikkim and the collected amount from the initiative will be transferred to her parents as the financial assistance for her treatment.

She is presently undergoing treatment in New Delhi after surgery at Central Referral Hospital, Tadong in East Sikkim.

The run was flagged off by Sikkim’s Marathon Man Amar Subba from Titanic Park and it ended at Paljor Stadium.

Marathon runners, sports enthusiasts, footballers, journalist and students have come forward to support the initiative with their participation. Finally, the run ended with the distribution of certificates to all participants.

Speaking to media Ongmu thanked her father Jeewan Lama, Amar Subba, runner Bharati Gurung and every individual who took part in the run and supported the cause.

She also appealed the sports organisations to come forward to extend their support to Reeya Lepcha.
