The 13th Manipur Polo International 2019 was formally inaugurated at the historic Mapal Kangjeibung, the oldest living polo ground in Imphal.

The speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Yumnam Khemchand Singh inaugurated the international polo tourney.

Deputy speaker Kongkham Robindro of Manipur Legislative Assembly attended the function as the guest of honour while health & family welfare minister L Jayanta Kumar presided over the meeting.

In the day’s opening match, England defeated USA by pumping in nine goals while the USA team managed to pull back just two goals at the end of the match.

For the lovers of polo, who have been keenly following this prestigious tournament, the result came as a bit of surprise as the US team, a strong contender in all the previous editions of this tournament was the winner in 2015.

India A team captain Lt Col Sammer Choudhary and S Girimohan of Manipur officiated the match.

On the 2nd day of the tournament on Sunday, India A will take on England while India B (Manipur) will clash with France.

The international polo tournament has been organized as part of popularizing the Sangai festival-state’s annual tourism festival which was usually held during the last week of November every year.
