Congress leaders of the Northeast on Tuesday paid their tributes to the first and only lady Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, on her 102nd death anniversary.
A number of people of the nation wrote messages of praise to the former political leader on social media.
Twitterati also remembered Indira Gandhi and penned tributary messages in her name with the hashtags #IronLady and #IndiraGandhi.
Former Silchar Lok Sabha MP and All India Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev stated that Indira Gandhi established India as a ‘global power’ with her bold decisions.
She tweeted, ” Salutations to Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who established India as a global power with her powerful and fearless decisions.”
Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma also praised Indira Gandhi as a “dynamic PM of #India whose inspiring leadership highly propagated the idea of saving the environment which is a cause relevant to date.”
He tweeted, ”Indira Gandhi ji was a dynamic PM of #India whose inspiring leadership highly propagated the idea of saving the environment which is a cause relevant to date. Today on the #indiragandhibirthanniversary, we remember her ideals and the grit which she carried forward her term.”
Meanwhile, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other Congress leaders paid floral tributes to the late prime minister at a remembrance ceremony held at Shakti Sthal, her memorial.
Born on this day in 1917 in Allahabad, Indira Gandhi was the daughter of India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
She was the prime minister between 1966 and 1977 and again from January 1980 until her assassination in 1984.
