Newly appointed Mizoram Governor Sreedharan Pillai on Tuesday exuded hope that he can easily adapt with Mizoram since it has great resemblance with Kerala, in many aspects.

“I will try my level best for the welfare and well-being of the people,” said, P S Sreedharan Pillai after taking oath on Tuesday.

P S Sreedharan Pillai, a renowned lawyer from Kerala, holding his first stint as Governor of any state in India, was sworn in as the newly appointed Governor of Mizoram.

He replaced Prof Jagdish Mukhi, who held this post as an additional charge along with Assam.

Guwahati High Court’s Chief Justice Ajai Lamba administered the oath of office and secrecy to Pillai at a swearing-in ceremony held at Raj Bhavan in Aizawl.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by chief minister, Zoramthanga, Assembly Speaker LalrinlianaSailo, Cabinet ministers, MLAs and other dignitaries of the State.

Speaking to the waiting media after the swearing-in ceremony, Pillai said, “I would render all possible help to the State government in getting assistance from the Centre giving massive effort for an all-round development of Mizoram, prioritizing sectors of tourism, communication and infrastructure development.”

Sreedharan Pillai added, “I will try to visit all the remote villages during my tenure in this beautiful State and stay away from politics, rather, abide by the ethics of the Governor’s office.”

Born in Venmony panchayat in Alappuzha district of Kerala to V G Sukumaran Nair and BhavaniAmma in December 1953, Pillai had graduated in Arts from N S S College, Pandalam.

Later, he graduated law from government law college, Calicut in 1978.

He started his political career with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and became the state secretary of the association in 1978.

Pillai served many posts in BJP and became Kerala state BJP president during 2003 to 2006.

In 2018, he was again appointed as the state president succeeding Kummanam Rajasekharan.

Outside his political and professional sphere, P S Sreedharan Pillai is also known to be a social activist and a prolific writer.
