The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) is in trouble as 15 of its members on Monday submitted a ‘no-confidence’ notice to governor Ramesh Vais for dissolving the Council’s Executive Committee.

The members submitted the notice to the Tripura governor at the Raj Bhavan, Agartala.

It is a major setback for the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) as the TTAADC has been ruled by the party.

The ‘no-confidence’ notice was signed by 15 members of the TTAADC which has 28 members.

All the 28 members were elected on CPI(M) tickets.

The ‘no-confidence’ notice was issued under Sub-rule (1) of Rule 159 of the TTAADC (Constitution, election and conduct of business) Rules 1985.

The members while meeting the governor in the evening at the Raj Bhavan requested him to dissolve the executive committee under chief executive member (CEM) Radha Charan Debbarma.

Copies of the notice were also sent to the chairman of TTAADC, Ranjit Debbarma and also to the secretary to the ADC.

The members who signed in no-confidence notice are Patiram Tripura, executive council member (ECM), Jaybahadur Jamatia (ECM), Santanu Jamatia (ECM), Paresh Chandra Sarkar (ECM) and Sandhya Rani Chakma (ECM).

The other members are Dhirendra Reang, Dhananjay Debbarma, Madhumati Debbarma, Motilal Sukla Baidya, Gurupada Debbarma, B.B. Halam, Sanjib Marak, Suthai Mog, B.K.Reang and Jaykishore Jamatia.

They have also called for a ‘no-confidence’ motion to be placed in the ADC council and passed.

Santanu Jamatia, one of the rebel members of the TTAADC said they have moved a ‘no-confidence motion’ against the Council’s chief executive member (CEM), Radha Charan Debbarma.

However, the CPI(M) leaders said nothing is final.

The party leaders are talking with the rebel members of the ADC.

Rebel member Santanu Jamatia ruled out the possibility of joining any political party at this moment.

According to political analysts, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to capture the TTAADC which is scheduled to go for election in April next year.
