Truck owners and drivers organisations in Mizoram, protesting against the poor condition of the national highway 306, began an indefinite strike on Thursday.

The NH-306 (earlier known as NH-54) connects Kawnpui in Mizoram to the Silchar in Assam.

The indefinite strike began on Thursday morning at 7 am in which members of the Mizoram Truck Owners’ Association (MTOA) and the Mizoram Truck Drivers’ Association (MTDA) took an active part and blocked the highway.

They pointed out that the dilapidated condition of the road has led to a number of accidents on the highway.

“The stretch between Kawnpui and Buichali in Mizoram is extremely poor,” they added.

They further informed said due to this pathetic condition of the road, a number of trucks have turned turtle leading to the death and injury to a number of drivers.

“The dilapidated condition of the highway has put the lives of the truck drivers in danger,” they added.

They have demanded the immediate repair of the road and said until it is repaired, the blockade will continue.
