Speaking at the programme, DC Jha highlighted the importance of the “Adopt Zero Waste lifestyle” programme in reducing municipal waste by converting waste to resource.

Jha said, “The quantum of municipal solid waste generated in Dibrugarh is estimated to be 50-60 metric tonnes per day. Out of which 75%-80% is biodegradable and 20%-25% is non-biodegradable waste. We can segregate household waste at source and produce compost out of the waste.”

“But we mix all biodegradable and non- biodegradable waste and it enhances the volume of municipal waste. By this orientation cum awareness programme, we want to make people aware of the ways that leads to a zero waste lifestyle,” he said.

“It is like a consultancy service. Whoever wants to adapt to zero waste lifestyle they may contact us through whats app no 60004-04251 or mail us at [email protected] Dibrugarh,” Jha said.

He said the District Solid Waste Management team is constituted by District administration and PHED for providing counselling on methods to manage waste at household level will visit their home as per their convenience.
