Manipur MP Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh expressed his urge for opening a replica of Tata Memorial Hospital such as Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, Sangrur at Punjab in Manipur.
He said such an institute would reduce the cost of treatment outside the state.
This was stated in a press release.
Dr Ranjan shared his view considering the phenomenon raise of prevalence of cancer in the north-eastern state.
He said treatment outside leads to significant economy drained out.
His said this during the second meeting of newly constituted Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science & Technology & Forest chaired by chairman Jairam Ramesh.
The committee consists of nine-members from Rajya Sabha and 31 members from Lok Sabha.
According to the press release issued by MP’s personal assistant, Dr Ranjan also lauded the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science & Technology & Forest to open a Nuclear Medicine facility & Gamma Irradiation Chamber at Imphal.
Manipur Lok Sabha MP also intended to expand Manipur Central University to more Atomic based Academic research activities, application of Gamma Chamber and willing to strengthen the Radiation Biology.
It is decided to introduce an exhibition programme in Manipur on the research work done by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) of India’s premier nuclear research facility, headquartered in Trombay, Mumbai, Maharashtra for awareness of our students, researchers on the applications of nuclear energy in power generation and others applications.
During the session of the meeting, Dr Ranjan recalled that the state had experienced earthquakes of magnitude of 8+ Richter scale in the past.
He draw the house committee to set up seismological observatory points at Manipur University to upgrade to a permanent institution to bring together all Seismology related activities under one umbrella.
He also said the region being the high seismicity attributed to the collision tectonics between the Indian plate and the Eurasian plate in the north and subduction tectonics along the Indo-Myanmar range, it said.
Moreover, he stressed to the house committee for a special care of the region which is highly prone to landslide, especially in Manipur and Nagaland sector to have a system of monitoring mass land movement.
He also pointed out to install all the necessary river flood warning system in Micro climatic zone through proper networking system in order to refrain from the damage of such natural calamities, it added.
