Nagaland director general of police (DGP) TJ Longkumer on Saturday said 46 officers of Nagaland Police were imparted training on cyber crime investigation.

Addressing the valedictory function of the 8-day cyber crime investigation training at Chumukedima police complex at Dimapur, Longkumer said the teaching methodology included online pre and post-assessment, hands-on exercises, case studies and group discussions.

He said the entire training programme was divided into two parts – cyber crime awareness programme and cyber crime investigation module.

The three-day cyber crime awareness programme covered topics from basics of computer hardware and other electronic devices, concepts of Internet technology, introduction to social media, introduction to cyber-crime, Information Technology Act.

The session on open source intelligence gathering, use of IT in policing, basics of good cyber crime FIR and call data record and tower data record got the best feedback among all, Longkumer said.

He said the 5-day cyber crime investigation module took the participants through various facets of investigation from pre-investigation assessment, search, seizure, documentation, labelling and packing to investigation into internet protocol, website, email, communication devices, social media crimes, and financial frauds gave them good insight.

Challenges to cyber crime investigation along with open source forensics tool opened up their mind space to whole host of new possibilities, he added.

The State police chief said the cyber crime training module was conceptualised under the cyber-crime prevention against women and children scheme where training was imparted in two phases to 46 officers of Nagaland Police.
