Keeping aside all speculations, two-time United Democratic Party (UDP) MLA H Brolding Nongsiej is all set to be sworn in as a minister in Conrad K. Sangma-led Meghalaya Cabinet on Wednesday.

Nongsiej represents the Mawthadraishan Assembly constituency in West Khasi Hills.

According to media reports, UDP leader Nongsiej will be sworn in at a solemn function in the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday.

The swearing-in ceremony will be held at 11 am.

Nongsiej will fill up the post of minister, which has remained vacant following resignation of Metbah Lyngdoh as the tourism minister to get elected as the Speaker of Meghalaya Assembly.

The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) had decided to field Metbah Lyngdoh, who represents Mairang Assembly constituency as an MLA, for the post of Speaker after the demise of Donkupar Roy.

Three-time MLA and UDP leader Metbah Lyngdoh was elected as new Speaker of the 10th Meghalaya Assembly on Friday.

Lyngdoh succeeded former Speaker late Donkupar Roy.

Roy was also holding the post of UDP president until his death.

Metbah Lyngdoh was elected as the new president of the UDP on Wednesday.

After taking over as the new UDP chief, Lyngdoh said the vacant post in the Cabinet should be filled by one of the MLAs of the UDP after his resignation as minister.

Earlier, the UDP claimed the Speaker’s post on the ground that the post was held by its leader, late Donkupar Roy.

However, it is not known whether Nongsiej would be given the same portfolio that Metbah Lyngdoh was holding.

UDP, which is one of the partners of the MDA coalition government, has five MLAs following the demise of Donkupar Roy.

Apart from Metbah Lyngdoh as Speaker, the party has two ministers – Lahkmen Rymbui and Kyrmen Shylla.
