The South West Khasi Hills, Meghalaya has been declared as one of the 12 winning districts in the World Toilet Day competition.

South West Khasi Hills winning the competition was declared by South West Khasi Hills district Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo.

The competition was organized by the Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation from November 9-19, 2018.

The competition was aimed at creating awareness about sanitation and cleanliness at the grassroots level led by district collectors, magistrates or CEO (Zilla Parishad).

Around 412 districts across 25 states and union territories took part in the contest. The contest reached out to crores of rural citizens.

The 12 winners are Bankura, West Bengal, Ganderbal, Jammu And Kashmir, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, Hazaribagh, Jharkand, Jehanabad, Bihar, Kandhamal, Odisha, Kodagu, Karnataka, Lohardaga, Jharkhand, Murshidabad, West Bengal, Salem, Tamil Nadu, Sangli, Maharashtra, South West Khasi Hills, Meghalaya.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma tweeted, “Congratulations South West Khasi Hills for being declared as one of the 12 winning districts from across the country in the World Toilet Day Contest 2018.”
