Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday took part in a public meeting at Moran in Dibrugarh and announced that six lakh farmers in the State would be provided Rs 5000 each for purchasing farming equipments.
In the meeting, the chief minister inaugurated the projects for development of National Highway 37 passing through Moran, development of the children’s park near Lions’ Club Moran and also laid the foundation stone of a bust of Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha.

Notably, NHIDCL would spend an amount of Rs 13.50 crore for developing 3.5 km stretch of NH 37 falling under Moran municipality area.
On the other hand, an amount of Rs 30 lakh has been earmarked for developing the children’s park from state government’s untied fund and Rs 10 lakh for the bust of Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha under Assam Darpan scheme.
Saying that it was important to economically empower the farmers as 85 percent of India’s population was engaged in agriculture, the chief minister stated that the central government had started a lot of flagship programmes to double the farmers’ income and Assam government had also taken initiative to provide tractors to the farmers through Chief Ministers’ SamagraGramyaUnnyan Yojana.
He said that both the central and state government’s schemes were aimed at doubling the farmers’ income in order to achieve the target set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India a 5 trillion economy.
The chief minister also highlighted, in his speech, different initiatives taken by the state government to improve the quality of life of the people of the tea community like depositing Rs 5000 in eight lakh bank accounts of the tea tribe people under Chah Bagicha Dhan Purashkar Mela and construction of roads in the tea gardens of the state with an expenditure of Rs 800 crore.
Earlier, the chief minister also visited Moran Blind School as part of the Swachhta hi Seva week celebrations synchronising with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.

During his visit to the school, Sonowal interacted with the students and saw different hand made products made by them in the company of the trustee of the school Victor Banerjee.
He also took part in the cleanliness activities in the school campus.
Expressing his happiness for being able to be present at the school, Sonowal assured of all possible help from the government in the future to the school.
