Guwahati: Uncertainty over the UGC NET June 2026 provisional answer key has triggered growing frustration among aspirants, with a section of candidates warning that they will gather outside the National Testing Agency (NTA) office on August 11 if the key is not released by August 10.
The June session of the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) was conducted in multiple phases between June 22 and July 5. More than a month after the examination began, candidates are still waiting for the provisional answer key and an official schedule for the declaration of results.
The provisional answer key is an important stage in the examination process as it allows candidates to check their responses and raise objections before the final answer key and results are prepared.
A section of aspirants has taken to social media platform X to demand that the NTA publish the answer key without further delay. Candidates have pointed out that more than 40 days have passed since the examination commenced, but the examination authority has not announced a definite timeline for the next stages.
The delay has also raised concerns over academic and employment opportunities. UGC NET qualification is used for eligibility in several PhD admission processes and Assistant Professor recruitment, and candidates fear that prolonged uncertainty could affect application and admission deadlines.
The issue comes amid earlier concerns surrounding the conduct of the June examination. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had alleged in July that the Sociology question paper was leaked before the examination. He claimed that a document containing questions similar to those asked in the test had circulated in several states.
The allegations have not been independently verified. Candidates had also raised complaints about repeated questions, spelling and translation errors and possible discrepancies involving the syllabus.
The NTA had acknowledged concerns related to the Sociology paper and said the matter was being examined. However, the agency has not publicly provided a detailed response regarding the alleged question paper leak.
Against this backdrop, the continued wait for the provisional answer key has added to the concerns among candidates. Aspirants are seeking not only the release of the key but also clarity on the timeline for objections, the final answer key and the declaration of results.
Candidates have urged the NTA to communicate any administrative or examination-related reasons for the delay and provide regular updates to prevent further uncertainty.
If the provisional answer key is released by August 10, the proposed gathering on August 11 may not go ahead. However, candidates have indicated that they could shift their campaign from social media to an in-person protest outside the NTA office if the delay continues.
