The All Koch Rajbonshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) has called for an Assam bandh on September 20 next.
The AKRSU has called the shutdown expressing their dissatisfaction over the updating process of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
The AKRSU leadership announced their decision of calling the bandh during a press interaction at Bongaigaon on Saturday.
The students’ body has alleged that around 58,000 people belonging to the Koch Rajbonshi community have been left out from the final NRC.
The students’ body has also demanded that the names of those people belonging to the Koch Rajbonshi community should be incorporated into the NRC without them going to the Foreigners’ Tribunal.
The AKRSU will also stage a demonstration in New Delhi on September 30 next.
The students’ body has also threatened to intensify their agitation if their plea is not heard by the government and NRC authority.
Notably, earlier on September 12, the Koch Rajbonshi Sanmelan had called for a 12-hour Assam bandh on the same issue.
The shut-down was called by the faction led by Bireswar Saikia and Durlabh Samua.
The sanmelan had raised serious allegation that names of more than five lakh people belonging to the Koch Rajbonshi community have been left out from the final NRC.
