Lakhimpur police on Tuesday night arrested a person associated with the infamous fake gold trade of Bangalmora.

The arrested person has been identified as Sahed Ali, a resident of Mohghuli under Nowboicha police outpost.

Lakhimpur additional superintendent of police Pranab Kumar Pegu along with the inspector-in-charge of Nowboicha Police Outpost Uttam Aadhikary arrested Ali.

This is the 23rd arrest by Lakhimpur police this year in its drive against fake gold and currency racket in Bangalmora area of the district.

In another operation, Lakhimpur police successfully arrested two more persons involved with the September 7 robbery case in the district.

The arrested have been identified as Manik Dutta and Bipul Gogoi.

The duo looted cash worth Rs 9 lakh along with jewellery.

Police also recovered some cash and two mobile phones from the duo’s possession.
