The 58th Teachers’ Day has turned out to be very significant for 2,000 odd teachers serving in the government sector schools under Mangaldai LAC of Assam.

Mangaldai legislator Gurujyoti Das on Thursday greeted each of them with a letter of felicitation neatly printed on a piece of traditional Muga fabric and signed by the legislator himself.

Talking to the Northeast Now MLA Das said, “Teachers are those people in the society who defying all odds always try to enlighten us with light of wisdom, like a candle which throws light in its surroundings even dissolving itself in the heat of the flame.”

“So, I have decided to greet as many as teachers of my constituency on their special occasion of Teachers’ Day and I reached out to more than 2,000 of them,” he said.

The unique effort of the young MLA has drawn wide spread appreciation from the the teaching fraternity.

“We are delighted. We never thought that our MLA would meet us personally and offer his greetings in such a manner which would double our inspiration for service,” said Amiya Dutta, principal, Mangaldai Town Girls Higher Secondary School.

On the other hand, in the district level ceremony of Teachers Day organized by the the State Education Department at the District Library auditorium, altogether 20 of teachers – ten each from elementary and higher secondary section have reportedly been offered felicitation.

Several prominent persons including deputy commissioner Ghanshyam Dass; additional deputy commissioner in charge of Education Navajyoti Oja; inspector of schools, Darrang, Madhab Chandra Deka; district elementary education officer, Dr Jawahira Tabassum, associate professor of Sipajhar College Dr Prasanna Kumar Nath were present on the occasion.

Earlier rich tribute was paid to Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan while garlanding his portrait and lighting lamp before it.
