A military transport plane on Thursday morning skidded off the runway at Yangon International Airport, which resulted in the temporary closure of the airport.
“A Y8, military aircraft, skidded off the runway due to an engine failure,” reported The Myanmar Times quoting U Ye Htut Aung, deputy director-general of the Department of Civil Aviation.
We are moving the aircraft from the runway,” Htut added.
“No injuries were reported,” Htut added.
“Runway operations were temporarily suspended from 11:20 pm to 3:20 pm. The aircraft was flying to Nyaung-U for training,” Htut infomred.
This is the fourth plane accident in Myanmar this year.
On May 8, a Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft carrying 30 passengers and six crew skidded and overran the runway on landing injuring 19 persons.
In the following week, a Myanmar National Airline plane had to make an emergency landing after its nose wheel failed to extend.
The Yangon airport was temporarily closed in August as the Golden Myanmar Airlines Y5-506 ATR-72-600 aircraft experienced technical problems with its nose gear while landing.
