The ONGC Assam Asset, headquartered at Nazira in Sivasagar district in line with prime minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to shun single use plastic, has pledged to make its premises plastic free.

The move led by Sanjeev Kakran, executive director and  asset manager, reiterated the need to eradicate single use plastic from its official premises in the operational areas of the Asset on the occasion of valedictory function of Swachhta Pakhwada observed from August 16 to 31.

“An action plan will be formulated to ban the use of single use plastic and an intensive no plastic campaign will be undertaken soon,” he said.

Plastic is one of the major causes of cancer, he added.

They also urged the gathering to pledge for drastically reducing the plastic use in everyday life to save planet earth.

During the Pakhwada fortnight several awareness programmes were conducted and Swachhta projects were inaugurated.

Among the Swachchata initiatives were the signing of an agreement with Eureka Forbes Institute of Environment, Mumbai for providing safe drinking water facility in 18 schools in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts and jute bag distribution in schools in operational areas in Lakwa, Gelekey, Rudrasagar and Lakhamani.
