Nipan Nath, a 28-year-old sub inspector of Assam police, committed suicide by shooting himself with his service pistol on Friday morning at his residence at Sisiborgaon in Dhemaji district.
The police officer joined Assam Police in 2017 and was posted at the Sissiborgaon police station as the sub-inspector (SI).
Nath hailed from Madhupur of Rangia in Kamrup district.
An inquiry into the alleged suicide incident has been ordered, said a police official.
Sources said Nath reached his room at around 4 am after completing night patrol.
Moments after he reached his room, his driver heard the sound of gunshots coming from his room.
Upon reaching the room, the driver saw Nath was lying in a pool of blood.
