Sabroom, which is in the southern-most part of Tripura, will soon be on the railway map.
The trial run for the 38-km newly constructed single line broad gauge railway track from Belonia to Sabroom of South Tripura district has been successfully completed.
This was informed by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) Shailesh Kumar Pathak on Tuesday’s night.
Train service between Agartala to Sabroom is likely to start before the Durga Puja festival this year.
The distance between Agartala and Sabroom is 120 km in the rail route.
“All the obstacles for introducing passenger train service from Agartala to Sabroom, which is the State’s southern-most border sub-division, has been removed,” said Pathak.
Currently, passenger train runs from Agartala up to Belonia.
On Tuesday, CRS Pathak along with other senior Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) officials had a trolley ride from Belonia to Sabroom as part of the on-spot safety check.
On July 2 this year, the first check by the CRS was carried out in the Sabroom-Belonia rail route.
After the inspection, the Commissioner of Railway Safety gave green signal to run passenger train in the route.
But in July, due to floods, triggered by heavy rains, damaged several parts of the newly-constructed railway tracks.
After the repair of the tracks, the CRS carried out another check on Tuesday.
According to Pathak, the ride was smooth and trouble-free.
After completing the successful trolley run, senior NFR officials and the CRS had a meeting at the newly-built Sabroom railway office and then moved out of Sabroom to Agartala via Belonia in a train at 8 pm on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Pathak said, “I undertook to check of the newly-built BG railway track from Belonia to Sabroom and the track is safe and okay. I will send a positive report to the Railways Board.”
Pathak added, “The entire single rail line from Belonia to Sabroom was excellently constructed by the NFR and the track is now completely ready for passenger services.”
He added that any time, the Indian Railway can start its passenger rail services on this track.
