The DoNER ministry has sanctioned Rs 35 crore for an anti-erosion project in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Siang district.
The DoNER ministry through a letter vide No NESIDS-11017/1/2019-O/o US (NLCPR) issued recently intimated the Arunachal government in this regard.

The project will cover protection works at Sigar, Ralling, Motum, Kiyit, Borguli, Seram, Kongkul, Namsing, Gadum and Mer villages under Mebo sub-division.
One-time central financial assistance will be provided for re-building of the damaged and washed away infrastructure in floods of 2017.

This is posing threat to human habitations and bridges along Mebo-Dhola road linking Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district.
The river has already gripped several acres of fertile cropland at Motum village portion on its left bank.
The river bank is coming closer to dwelling houses at Seram and Kongkul villages.
At least 30 families of the area were dislocated due to unabated erosion posed by Siang river.
The villagers of Borguli and Seram last year took anti-erosion measures on self-help basis in order to protect their fertile cropland from the grip of river Siang.
They erected spurs using locally available cane, bamboo and tree trunks to control the flow of water.
But their effort was of no use as high tides of the river washed away the spurs and the area continues to be eroded by the river.
This year too, the villagers of Seram and Kongkul have placed spurs in traditional method and are trying to control erosion.
Mebo MLA Lombo Tayeng accompanied by water resource engineers visited the erosion affected site during September last year.
They also reported the Arunachal government about the disastrous situation in the Mebo constituency.
Later, an inter-ministerial team with experts deputed by chief minister Pema Khandu visited the erosion-hit sites of Mebo.
The team also submitted a report about the ground situation.
Chief minister Khandu subsequently forwarded a proposal to the DoNER seeking fund for an anti-erosion project in Mebo sub-division.
As a result Rs 35 crore has been announced by the Centre to protect the area from erosion.
