Union cabinet secretary Pradeep Kumar Sinha on Monday convened a meeting through video conferencing with all the chief secretaries, director generals of police, principal secretaries and commissioners of home departments of states.
Matters related to maintenance of law & order, peace and tranquillity in all the states and union territories were discussed.
The meeting was initiated in view of the introduction of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill-2019 in the Rajya Sabha by union home minister Amit Shah, a press release said.
At the meeting, the cabinet secretary instructed all the officers to take necessary and preventive steps to maintain law and order, peace and tranquillity in their respective states and UTs.
He further instructed the state machinery to ensure that there is no untoward incident and law and order problem in the states and that peace should be maintained by all means.
The district administrations were further instructed to identify students from Jammu and Kashmir studying in several universities and colleges in various parts of the country and take all necessary measures for their safety and security.
Under the present circumstances all social media users have been requested not to unnecessarily circulate any kind of false and frivolous news, messages, video clippings, which may have a communal colour or which may cause law and order problem.
Necessary instructions and advisory have been issued by the Centre, which are being circulated to the district authorities.
The citizens of all states and union territories including the states from the Northeast have been requested not to pay any heed to any kind of rumours or false news in this regard.
