Imphal: An inter-ministerial team from the Centre, including officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, visited the Churachandpur district in Manipur on Tuesday to evaluate the extensive damage caused by Cyclone Remal.

The cyclone, accompanied by heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and flooding, has severely impacted the region, affecting 169 villages, damaging 2,744 houses, and destroying 21 hectares of crop areas.

The disaster has also claimed two lives and resulted in the loss of 127 animals.

The team conducted field inquiries in several affected areas, including Buallian Village, D. Leikot Village, Hill Town under Churachandpur Sub-Division, and Tuinom Khopi and Laijang Village under Tuibong Sub-Division.

They interacted with residents to gauge the full impact of the extreme weather events and determine the necessary relief measures.

During their visit, the team was briefed by Thangboi Gangte, ADC, in a meeting at the Conference Hall of the Mini-Secretariat. District-level officers provided detailed insights into the situation on the ground.
