IMPHAL: Indian Army and state forces launched coordinated operations in the adjoining districts of Imphal East and Kangpokpi of Manipur, recovering a significant cache of arms, ammunition and explosives over the past 24 hours, according to a statement from the ministry of defence on Monday (May 20).

Acting on specific intelligence regarding the presence of weapons in Gwaltabi village in Imphal East district of Manipur, the Indian Army, in conjunction with Manipur police, conducted a joint search operation.

The operation resulted in the recovery of a substantial cache of weaponry, including an Improvised Long Range Mortar (Pompi), a .303 Rifle, two 12-bore guns, two hand grenades, ammunition, and other war-like materials.

In a separate operation on Sunday (May 19), security forces conducted search and area domination operations in the vulnerable hill and valley districts of Manipur.

These efforts led to the discovery of a 9mm Carbine Machine Gun with a magazine, a 9mm Pistol with a magazine, a .22 Pistol with a magazine, and seven live rounds of ammunition along the Imphal-Tamenglong road in Kangpokpi district of Manipur.

All recovered items have been handed over to the Manipur police for further investigation and proper disposal.
