Manipur Governor meets top PWD officials; Raj Bhavan to be renovated.

Imphal: The state government has prepared to spend a hefty sum of money on the renovation of Raj Bhavan, which houses the Governor’s residence and office, during the ongoing financial year, according to information provided by the Public Works Department (PWD).

Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey convened a meeting with Govindas Konthoujam, Minister (Works), N. Subhas, Chief Engineer, PWD, Manipur along with some officials of the department on Friday at Raj Bhavan and discussed in length various developmental activities in the Raj Bhavan premises.

They discussed many proposed constructions and renovations of standing vintage buildings and halls in Raj Bhavan premises.

The Residence of the Governor is a structure built by the British and inaugurated in 1898.

Manipur was under the British rule from 1891 till 1947.

Sovereign Manipur merged with the Indian Union in 1949.

It was the residence of the then Political Agent, then the Chief Commissioner, Lieutenant Governor, and since 1972 of the Governor.

It is about 18 acres, with beautiful lawns, gardens, pools with fountains, etc.
