Landslide in Assam’s Karimganj results in death of five, including three minors.

Guwahati: In a tragic turn of events, five people including three minors from the same family died in the Badurpur area of Assam’s Karimganj district due to a landslide.

The incident occurred at 12:30 am on Tuesday night during incessant rain in the Tajurtal area of Anglarbazar, approximately 26 km from Karimganj town.

The victims included five members of the same family, Roymun Nessa, 55, and her three daughters, Sahida Khanam, 18, Jahida Khanam, 16, and Hamida Khanam, 11.

A three-year-old boy also died who has been identified as Mehdi Hassan, son of Mahimuddin.

According to reports, the flood situation in Assam has worsened, affecting over 1.61 lakh people across 15 districts and claiming 26 lives so far.

Till now the ravaging floods have caused severe damage, including this tragic landslide in Karimganj district where five people, including three minors, have lost their lives.

Continuous rainfall and rising water levels in several rivers have compounded the situation with rescue and relief efforts underway.

The situation remains grim as rivers like Kushiyara and Brahmaputra continue to flow at dangerous levels, affecting areas like Karimganj and South Salmara-Mankachar.

The disaster has also impacted neighbouring regions, with about seven lakh people affected in Sylhet, Bangladesh.
