Agartala: Around 20 female students from Bodhjungh Girls Higher Secondary School in Agartala were hospitalized on Thursday after experiencing severe stomach aches, suspected to be due to food poisoning.

According to the teacher at the school, the students began complaining of stomach pain shortly after arriving for their classes following the morning prayer session. Some of the affected students fainted, prompting the school to call for an ambulance.

“We don’t know what actually happened to them as they stay in the hostel. Some of them fainted, so we called an ambulance and rushed them to the hospital,” Das stated.

One of the students recounted, “When we came to school, our stomachs started aching suddenly along with vomiting, and we began feeling uncomfortable. We live in the Maharaja Bir Bikram Welfare Society hostel and had dal and rice for breakfast before coming to school.”

Another student confirmed that they felt severe discomfort and stomach pain shortly after breakfast.

The affected students were immediately taken to GB Pant Hospital for treatment.

Deputy Medical Superintendent Kanak Chowdhury reported that the symptoms pointed to food poisoning.

“Most probably, it is symptoms of food poisoning. They all are stable. Around 20 students came, and some of them left the hospital after preliminary treatment. We have provided them with saline and medicines. They are scared as they are far away from their parents. The Medical Superintendent also paid a visit. We are suspecting it is food poisoning, and the weather is also changing,” Chowdhury explained.
