Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today offered prayers at the Golden Temple at Amritsar in Punjab

He also washed utensils as a part of voluntary service or seva at the religious place also known as Harmandir Sahib

Gandhi, who shared pictures of his voluntary service on Instagram, can be seen happily enjoying his time washing utensils with fellow devotees at the Golden Temple

“Today, reached the Golden Temple, Shri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar and started service,” he wrote in a caption on Instagram

Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said that it was Gandhi’s ‘personal, spiritual visit’ to the Golden Temple

“Shri @RahulGandhi ji is coming to Amritsar Sahib to pay obeisance at Sachkhand Shri Harmandir Sahib. This is his personal, spiritual visit, let’s respect his privacy,” wrote Warring in a post on X

“Request all party workers to not be physically present for this visit. You all can show your support in spirit & meet him the next time. Satnaam Shri Waheguru,” he added

The Golden Temple is not only a central religious place of the Sikhs, but also a symbol of human brotherhood and equality

People of all religions flock to the temple daily for worship

Built at a level lower than the surrounding land level, the Gurudwara teaches the lesson of egalitarianism and humility and the four entrances of this holy shrine from all four directions, signify that people belonging to every walk of life are equally welcome
