Sharing some images from the inauguration ceremony on X, Modi wrote, “The @BAPS Hindu Mandir, Abu Dhabi, UAE opens its doors for devotees! Feel very blessed to be a part of this very sacred moment. Here are some glimpses.”

PM Modi thanked President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his personal support and for his graciousness in granting the land for the construction of the BAPS Temple in Abu Dhabi

He also said that the BAPS Temple is a celebration of UAE-India friendship, deep-rooted cultural bonds uniting the two nations, and also an embodiment of the UAE’s global commitment to harmony, tolerance and peaceful coexistence

The temple was inaugurated in presence of the sixth and present spiritual guru of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha Mahant Swami Maharaj and the eminent Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence for the UAE Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahyan

Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) is a socio-spiritual Hindu sect which is recognized for its devotion to Bhagwan Swaminarayan considering him as an incarnation of Lord Krishna

The temple has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 700 crore in a 27 acre plot of land donated by the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan

The 108 feet tall temple been made of 40,000 cubic metres of marble, including Italian marble, 180,000 cubic metres of sandstone, and over 1.8 million bricks

The BAPS Mandir has already won several accolades, including the Best Mechanical Project of the Year 2019, at the MEP Middle East Awards, Best Interior Design Concept of the Year 2020, Best Architecture Style and Best Traditional Nagar Style

It is situated in the Abu Mureikhah area of Abu Dhabi
