Nagaland tourism minister Temjen Imna Along recently gave a shoutout to Theyie Keditsu , an influencer who is showing how traditional Naga outfits can be worn stylishly to create modern looks
Keditsu, who showcases her innovative styles through her Instagram handle Mekhelamama has been giving some serious fashion inspiration by adorning Naga mekhela and jewellery with kurtis, tops, jackets etc
Introducing her, Along wrote, “This Post is specially for ladies. Lemme introduce @mekhelamama, who is revolutionizing traditional fashion through her innovative styling of the mekhala.”
“Her vibrant, eclectic outfits showcase the mekhala's versatility, combining it with stiletto boots, leather jackets, and even quirky tights!” he added
“Inspiring others to embrace sustainability, @mekhalamama advocates for the value of indigenous textiles, reminding us of their rich heritage and the skill of their creators,” he added
Along urged everyone to join her mission and support local artisans and designers so that it can help in creating lasting demand for these timeless fabrics and empower the weavers of Nagaland
Keditsu is an Assistant Professor of English in Kohima College by profession and is an influencer by passion
She completed her M.A. from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and her PhD from Tata Institute of Social Sciences
She has also published a number of poems and journals. Her research focuses in contemporary Naga culture, indigenous knowledge, indigenous feminisms, oral & written literatures of Nagaland
