Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya, who hurt his left ankle while bowling during India's World Cup match against Bangladesh in Pune last month , has been ruled out of the ongoing World Cup
Pandya, in a post on Instagram, expressed regret that he has to miss out the remaining part of the World Cup but confirmed to be a cheerleader for his team
He also expressed gratitude towards his fans for their wishes, love and support towards him
“Tough to digest the fact that I will miss out on the remaining part of the World Cup. I'll be with the team, in spirit, cheering them on every ball of every game,” wrote Pandya
“Thanks for all the wishes, the love, and the support has been incredible. This team is special and I'm sure we'll make everyone proud. Love, always, HP . Love India,” he added
The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently confirmed that Pandya has been ruled out of the World Cup due to his ankle injury
“India's unbeaten start to the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup has received a massive hit with news that star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has failed to recover from his ankle injury and will miss the remainder of the tournament,” the ICC wrote in a statement
As the30-year-old player has failed to recover in time to part of the rest of the campaign, his place in India's squad will be taken by Prasidh Krishna
ICC's Event Technical Committee has approved pacer Prasidh Krishna's addition to the squad as Hardik's replacement.
India and South Africa currently occupy the top two places on the World Cup standings
