King Charles III, who is the oldest person in British history to ascend the British throne, will soon have his image printed in banknotes, stamps and coins
The Royal Mail has recently announced that the current image of Queen Elizabeth used on the Machin Definitive ‘everyday’ stamps will be updated to feature an image of King Charles III.
The king’s image will also appear on new 1st and 2nd Class Definitive stamps, as well as on Special Stamps
Meanwhile, the new stamps are expected to enter circulation once the current stock is exhausted
Anne Jessopp, the CEO of the official maker of UK coins Royal Mint, said that the first coins bearing the effigy of King Charles III will enter circulation in line with demand from banks and post offices
The Bank of England said that it will reveal images of updated banknotes featuring a portrait of King Charles III by the end of 2023
The new bank notes featuring the image of the king are expected to enter circulation by the middle of 2024
King Charles III’s image will appear on existing designs of all four polymer banknotes of £5, £10, £20 and £50
The King’s cypher was also released recently and it comprises of the initials of the monarch’s name, Charles, and title, Rex – Latin for King, alongside a representation of the Crown.
The cypher is the personal property of the king and was selected by him from a series of designs prepared by The College of Arms.
The King’s cypher will appear on government buildings, state documents and on some post boxes.
It is also used by government departments and by the Royal Household for franking mail.
