BJP leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta accused IndiGo for ‘coercion’ from passengers on their flights

Dasgupta, in a post on X, alleged that a passenger cannot buy a soft drink alone on an IndiGo flight if he /she doesn’t purchase a snack

He also urged Union Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia to "restore the principles of choice to fliers"

“I discovered in mid-air on an Indigo flight that you can’t buy a soft drink. The airline has made it obligatory to also buy a snack, regardless of whether you want it or not,” Dasgupta wrote in a post on X.

“This is coercion and I urge minister @JM_Scindia to restore the principles le of choice to fliers. Squeezing fliers through all sorts of extras must stop,” he added

Many users agreed with Dasgupta and alleged that IndiGo’s services are either overpriced or not up to the mark

“@IndiGo6E doesnt even provide meal on international flights, forget domestic. All other major airlines, even Air India and Vistara, provide meal and drinks. All major intl carriers provide multiple meals if journey is longer. It will be tough for IndiGo to compete in intl markets,” one user wrote

“Completely agree. And there are hardly any window or aisle seats available without paying extra,” another added

However, there are others who disagreed with Dasgupta’s statements and opined that they found the aircraft’s services good

“I have flown @IndiGo6E several times both domestic nd international, never faced this ,there is no coercion. As for seat selection, most airlines charge for aisle nd XL seat. Yes the price for the food items can be reduced,” one wrote

“Didn’t notice anything like that. Have purchased tea or beverages onboard many times. While people may have complaints about 6E not offering frills, they have transformed air connectivity through the country and made flying accessible for a large number of people,” another added
