Barsana is believed to be the birth place of Radha, the divine lover of Lord Krishna

Located about 43 km from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, one of the most prominent places of tourism of this religious town is Shree Radha Rani Temple

It is located in Bhanugarh Hill and said to be around 5000 years old

Known as Shriji or Shri Ladli Lal Temple, it attracts devotees from around the world and is mostly crowded during the times of Radhashtami and Holi

According to legend, Lord Krishna’s father Nanda and Radha’s father Vrishbhanu were good friends and were in charge of looking after Gokul and Raval respectively

However, with the atrocities of King Kansa, Nanda and Vrishabhanu relocated with the inhabitants of their villages to Nandgaon and Barsana respectively

With Vrishabhanu choosing Bhanugarh Hill as his abode, it became a home of Radha and it is believed to be the site where Radha and Krishna’s divine pastimes took place

According to legend, King Vajranabh, the great grandson of Lord Krishna, constructed the temple dedicated to Radha

The temple, which was later ruined was reconstructed by Narayan Bhatt who is a disciple of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu with the help of Raja Todarmal

The temple has been constructed with white and red sandstones symbolizing the pure love of Radha Krishna and its exquisite regal architecture is a mélange of both Mughal and Rajput forms
