Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently announced that the state government is going to convert the Anundoram Borooah Award to a scholarship from next year
Sarma, in a post on X, declared that this step was being done to create an environment of competition among the students of Assam
“To bring an environment of competitiveness among our students, we will convert the Anundoram Borooah Award to a scholarship from next year,” he wrote
“30,000 students from Class 5,8 and 10 will be eligible to receive Rs. 15,000 each. We will invest Rs. 45 crore for this effort,” he added
Sarma recently said that the system of Anundoram Borooah Award will change from next year because the importance that was earlier in the 10th standard will be gone as per the new education policy
He said that the state government is planning to make the journey from 10th to 12thstandard a smooth one for students and Class XII exam is the one where they ‘need to take stress’
Sarma claimed that the students should not take matriculation exam as the biggest exam of their life and for this reason the Anundoram Borooah Award is going to be converted to Anundoram Borooah Scholarship
“We will arrange a scholarship exam for 5th standard students where we will give scholarships to 10000 students,” he said
“In the eighth grade, through SEBA, we will held another scholarship competition where we will award Anundoram Borooah scholarship to 10000 more students,” he added
“And instead of 75% of the 10th standard students, we will give the first 10000 students Anundoram Borooah Scholarship,” he added
Sarma said that the matriculation exam would now be considered as a scholarship exam in Assam
