Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed about a ‘must visit pilgrimage’ site for every ‘Rashtra Bhakt’ recently
Sarma, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), said that the maidam of Ahom military general Lachit Barphukan in Jorhat is a must visit pilgrimage for every Rashtra Bhakt or patriot
“Joi Aai Axom. This maidam in Jorhat houses the remains of our bravest general, Lachit Barphukan. A must visit pilgrimage for every Rashtra Bhakt. Offered my prayers, yesterday,” he added
Sarma, who was on a visit to Jorhat for inauguration of several projects, also posted a video of him paying respects at the maidam in a post on X.
“Chao nuru chao kao oi… The sacrifice of Bir Lachit Barphukan is our driving force to build a prosperous Assam. Bir Lachit Maidam, Jorhat,” he wrote
Ahom military general Lachit Barphukan was one of the bravest and fearest warriors of Assam who was born in Charaideo on November 24, 1622
His birthday is celebrated as Lachit Divas every year to hail his heroic military feats in the Battle of Saraighat in 1671
