Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently launched a scheme for his ‘young friends’ known as Arohan
Arohan, which is a career mentoring programme for meritorious students, is also a unique initiative of Assam government to groom students (mentees) in academics, non-academics, career counseling etc. by professionals (mentors)
The mentors would include the Speaker of Vidhan Sabha, teachers / professors / principals of schools and colleges, IAS / ACS officers, public representatives and entrepreneurs
The mentees include students who have topped in Class VIII from government /provincialized schools, Adarsha Vidyalayas, tea garden model schools and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas
As per the Arohan scheme, a total of 4339 mentees from 2023-24 will be part of the exposure trip to be conducted by December by the government of Assam
The mentees will be taken on an exposure visit to premier institutions in Guwahati like IIT Guwahati, Narangi Military Station, Bio-technology Park, Regional Science Centre, Assam State Museum, Assam State Zoo
They would also be taken to Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Assam Administrative Staff College, Gauhati University
The students who would be accommodated in six locations across Guwahati will be accompanied by magistrates, doctors, paramedical staff, police, teachers
The Arohan scheme which would be launched on September 7 will begin with a four day exposure trip to Guwahati for all eligible students and help them learn from inspiring figures to become successful in future
Sharing a video on Arohan scheme on X, Sarma wrote, “On August 29, 2023, we took some important decisions on Arohan, a scheme for my young friends. I am truly excited about its transformative impact!”
