Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared a video of a mesmerizing traditional cultural performance of Thiya Naam performed for the King of Bhutan on October 3, 2023
Sharing a video on X, Sarma wrote , “A mesmerising Thiya Naam, worshipping Lord Krishna, was performed to honour His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan, yesterday.”
“The striking similarities in cultural ethos of both the countries bind us together,” he added
The Druk Gyalpo or the King of Bhutan arrived in Guwahati yesterday for a weeklong official visit to India
He was warmly welcomed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with other eminent dignitaries and government officials at Lokpriya Gopinath International Airport in Guwahati
Upon arriving in Guwahati, the King visited the revered Kamakhya Temple located atop the Nilachal hills in the city and offered prayers to the Goddess
The Druk Gyalpo, who is on his first official visit to Assam, also met with some Bhutanese students and attended a cultural programme that was organized for him in Guwahati
On the second day of the official visit to India, the King granted an audience to the faculty of education institutions in Assam, led by the the state education minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, in Guwahati
He then travelled to Golaghat district to visit Kaziranga National Park.
The Druk Gyalpo was received at Jorhat Airport by Assam finance minister Ajanta Neog
He was also warmly welcomed at IORA Retreat in Kaziranga by Assam’s environment minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, agriculture minister Atul Bora along with other government officials
