Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently described about the significance of the holiest month of the Assamese calendar which is known as Bhada Maah in the Assamese language
Bhada Maah, which is the fifth month in the Assamese calendar, is the time when Janmashtami or the birth anniversary celebrations of Lord Krishna is conducted
It is also the month when the death anniversary of two of greatest saints and social reformers of Assam – Srimanta Sankardev and Sri Sri Madhabdev – is also held
The twelve months (Maah in Assamese) of the Assamese calendar includes Bohag, Zeth, Ahar, Xaun, Bhada, Ahin, Kati, Aghun, Puh, Magh, Fagun and Sot
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Sarma said that the holy month of Bhada is of immense significance in Assam
“The holy month of Bhad is of immense importance in the spiritual, cultural and social life of Assam,” he wrote in a caption in Assamese
“ The atmosphere filled with the sound of Harinam (chants of Lord Hari) brings a message of peace, unity and harmony to our minds,” he added
“Besides the Janmashtami celebrations of Lord Krishna, the death anniversary of two great Assamese social reformers Srimanta Sankardev and Sri Sri Madhabdev is also held in Bhada Maah,” he added
Sarma also extended his good wishes on the holy month of Bhada to the Assamese people
The holy month of Bhada falls in the months of August and September according to the English calendar
