Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently revealed that 500 Channa Barca fishes have been seized at Dibrugarh airport
Sarma, in a post on X, termed this as the ‘biggest exotic fish seizure’ carried out by Assam forest department
“In a successful anti-smuggling operation carried out by @assamforest, 500 Channa Barca fishes have been seized at Dibrugarh Airport,” wrote Sarma
“These rare species of fish are valued at Rs. 4.5 crore in the international market & is one of the biggest exotic fish seizures in recent times,” he added

1. Popularly known as the Barca snakehead, it is a rare species of snakehead which are a group of predatory fishes that feeds on smaller aquatic creatures
2. It is endemic to the upper Brahmaputra river basin in northeastern India and Bangladesh
