Allahabad High Court has rejected a petition seeking an inquiry into the history of Taj Mahal

The high court also dismissed the prayer for opening of the doors of its 22 rooms

“The issues lie outside court and should be left to the historians” the court said

The plea was filed by Rajneesh Singh, a BJP leader

Before moving the Allahabad High Court, Rajneesh Singh requested Archaeological Survey of India to probe the 22 closed doors in the Taj Mahal

Rajneesh Singh wanted to see the 22 doors open to ascertain the presence of the idols of Hindu deities

Taj Mahal was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz

Constriction of Taj Mahal began in 1632 and took 22 years to be completed in 1653

Taj Mahal was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982
