Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) in collaboration with Block Mission Management Unit, Dhemaji conducted day-long orientation training on ‘Handloom Product for woman Self Help Group’ at Dhemaji recently.
Dhemaji District Project Manager of ASRLM, Indrajit Gam informed that the orientation training for woman weavers was to promote their handloom skill besides promotion of handicrafts designs and marketing networks.
The Mission has selected two gaon panchayats under Dhemaji block on cluster approach for implementing pilot project in handloom sector.
Inaugurating the day-long handloom, Dhemaji MLA Dr Ronuj Pegu urged the mission volunteers to train up the female weavers for enhancing their household economy through handloom and handicraft activities.
He informed that State government is all set to grant Rs five lakh to promote handloom activities to two selected Woman SHGs having handloom activity.
“The fund worth Rs five lakh will be utilized for promotion of weaving skills either in the form of training or procurement of weaving machine for two selected SHGs having handloom activity”, MLA Pegu cleared.
Resource persons from Handloom & Textile department Bhaskar Saikia and Coordinator of Gogamukh based Tata CML Satrasing Medok imparted training to the participants on quality thread collection and making diversified handloom products by using locally available raw materials and suggested them to capture national and international markets.
Speaking on the occasion Block Development Officer of Dhemaji Nabin Kaman encouraged the weavers to go ahead on their trade with proper training and suggestion.
Assuring them of granting fund through Rural Development schemes, he urged the women weavers to communicate with block officials for marketing of their handloom products.
Altogether 42 women SHG members from different panchayats under Dhemaji block were attended the day-long training.
