People in the three upper Assam districts of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Jorhat have eventually begun to follow the guidelines issued by the state government with the Covid-19 infections intensifying in these districts in the past three days.
The second wave of Covid-19 has hit hard this month after positive cases showed a declining trend from October last year.

This led many to put down their guard and violate all protocols, which eventually led to the disaster the state is currently facing.
In Jorhat, a total of 61 new Covid-19 positive cases were detected on Saturday.
Jorhat at present has 375 active cases.

At least 75 people have died in the district since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.
On Saturday, 2356 Covid-19 tests were conducted in Tinsukia district, of which 47 have tested positive cases.

“We are taking all measures to combat Covid-19. We have intensified Covid-19 tests in the airport and railway station for those who are coming from outside Assam. This time the second wave of Covid-19 is more infectious then the earlier one,” said Nabojyoti Gogoi, integrated disease surveillance programme officer.
On Saturday, a total of 3879 Covid-19 tests were conducted in Dibrugarh, of which 128 positive cases were detected.
At least 16 students of the Dibrugarh University tested positive recently, following which two hostels were declared containment zones.
Students of the campus were also asked to vacate the other hostels in the campus.
