An army jawan in Uttar Pradesh allegedly shot dead a woman after her relative included his name in a list of people who had returned to their homes in their village following the spread of COVID-19.

As per reports, the jawan Shailendra had stormed into her house and assaulted her brother-in-law Vinay Yadav who had included is name among the list of returnees.

After the 36-year-old lady Sandhya along with Vinay’s brother Dinesh rushed to his aid to help him, the jawan shot at her killing her on the spot.

An FIR has been lodged at Kurra police station and Shailendra has been arrested, Superintendent of Police, Ajay Kumar Pandey said.

According to the instructions of the village panchayat, Vinay had prepared a list of names who had returned there from various places following the spread of coronavirus.

People returning to their villages from cities have been asked to self-quarantine themselves to avoid the spread of coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country has increased to 1965 on Thursday.
